All About Interior Design Consults

Here at KMI, we love to work on projects of all sizes. Some of our clients are ready to take on their house themselves, whether to save on costs or because they're excited to get stuck in, but they need a bit of advice, guidance, or resources to succeed. This is where design consults come in. These 90-minute sessions are the perfect way to get the direction that you need to create a home that feels elevated and tailored to you. Our interior design consults can be done virtually or in person for those located in the Calgary area. Here is a look at the process for virtual and in-person consults:

Virtual Design Consultations

Once you've booked your consultation session with us, we'll send you a calendar invite and a questionnaire for you to fill out. This questionnaire gives you a chance to reflect on your needs and what you're hoping to gain from our session and also gives us valuable background information so we come prepared. We conduct virtual consults over Google Hangouts and the link is included in your calendar invite so that it's easy to join. Our session lasts for 90 minutes and in that time we discuss anything you'd like guidance with. We recommend focusing on one or two topics in a session of this length so that you can leave with really actionable solutions. Some examples of the topics we've focused on in these sessions include fabric sourcing for an upholstery project, floor plan layout options for a living room, or finish selections for a bathroom renovation. These examples give you an idea of the types of topics that fit well into a 90-minute virtual session. As a follow-up to our session, you'll receive a pdf document filled with the design solutions and resources that we went over in the consultation. This could include things like floor plan sketches for your space, links to furniture items to purchase, or a mood board with finish selections and materials.

In-Person Design Consultations

Our in-home consults are available within Calgary and can be a single session to provide ideas for you to implement on your own or even as the start of a larger project that you're interested in. Once you've booked in with us, you'll receive a questionnaire to fill out detailing your needs and design challenges. In-person consults can include any of the same types of topics as virtual design consultations, but they can also be a bit more extensive including general suggestions for your home if you don't really know where to start. Some of our clients also come to us for in-person consultations because they need recommendations for a final layer of accessories, art, and styling. After the session, you'll receive a document outlining our professional recommendations and any sources that we discussed, or a customized proposal for a larger scope.

Design consultations are a great way to get professional advice for your home that will elevate it and make it unique for you and your family. Whether you're looking for sources beyond the usual big-box stores, advice on laying out furniture, or advice on finish selections for a timeless kitchen renovation that you'll love for years, a design consult session is a perfect place to start. Reach out if you have any questions and we look forward to working with you!
